the best tools that i use everytime i go on sketchup are the push/pull tool the rotate and the re-size ones.
the push/pull tool is pretty much what its name says, it pushes and pulls objects into what sizes you want.
the rotate rotates the tool vertically and horazontally so if you wanted to you could even make a upside down cat!
